Dawn was born and raised a child of missionaries in the Philippines. She grew
up there until she came to the U.S. for college. It was during her college
years that she came to believe that art was her calling in life.
She likes to live a quiet life with her three little girls and her engineer
husband but finds that every once in a while it's nice to share her art with
others.
Dawn gives an Art Talk to churches, colleges and seminaries about how God can
be communicated in art. She finds the greatest fulfillment in sharing her love
for art and her love for God.
When she's not giving a talk she's out sharing the art in the Dallas/Ft. Worth
metroplex. She enjoys Art Fairs such as Cottonwood and Artscape at the
Arboretum.
Her art is collected by many businesses as well as private owners. Some of
which are: Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas Eye Care Associates and Dallas
Baptist University. She is currently affiliated with Riverbend Fine Arts
Gallery, Marble Falls, Texas.
Artist Statement
In my work I try to touch on the mystery of God by using the symbols of trees
and skies. The sky is perpetually changing in its range of emotion through
color and texture. I have, many times, looked at the sky and thought, "that's
exactly how I feel." My sky paintings are not so much photographic as they are
trying to be true to the emotion in the sky. When I paint trees I like to look
at them as symbols. Just like with the sky as a symbol of emotion I use the
trees to be symbols of people. I find that I am heavily influenced by my faith
and the Bible. I have discovered vast amounts of symbolism in the Bible when
it comes to trees and it excited me to take that metaphor into my own
paintings. I hope someday to have a forest of metaphors and skies of all
ardors.
